Is Your Cold-press Crimping Tool Feeling Stiff? These Maintenance Tips Will Give Your Tool A New Lease On Life.

Finding the right tools is only the first step; making the handle move as smoothly as silk is the real difference between an expert and a beginner. Many people, when using the contact crimper, only focus on the wear and tear of the jaws, forgetting the crucial part that bears all the force—the handle's connecting shaft.

Why is your cold-press crimper getting heavier with use?

The connecting shaft of the d sub contact crimper is constantly subjected to high-frequency metal-to-metal friction. If you don't regularly apply a few drops of lubricant, the accumulated metal shavings and dust inside will quickly turn into "sandpaper." This wear not only makes the feel stiff but also causes the crimping stroke to deviate from the preset precision.

When maintaining it, you can refer to the following steps:

  • Clean the old grease and metal powder from the gaps in the connecting shaft.

  • Apply a few drops of highly penetrating industrial lubricant to the core of the shaft.

  • Repeatedly open and close the handle dozens of times to ensure the lubricant is thoroughly absorbed.

  • Wipe away any excess lubricant to prevent it from attracting more dust from the work site.

The maintenance of the connecting shaft determines the true lifespan of the tool.

The contact crimping requires lubrication of the handle connecting shaft. This action creates a micron-level protective film on the metal surface. Without this film, the pins on the connecting shaft will experience displacement that is barely perceptible to the naked eye. Once this displacement occurs, it will be difficult to pass the pull-out force test of the crimped terminals.

If you find that the crimping feels stiff, or the handle rebounds slowly, then the tool is thirsty. Adding a drop or two of lubricant can extend the tool's service life by several years.
