Material Selection In Cold-pressed Needle Manufacturing
For moderate fatigue conditions, 304 and 316 austenitic stainless steels are the most common choices for crimp contact male stainless steel. Both belong to the 300 series austenitic stainless steel and have a stable crystal structure, which allows the metal to maintain continuous flow during cold pressing, which is beneficial to the geometric accuracy of crimp socket contact.
Moderate fatigue loads mean that female crimp contact stainless steel needs to withstand repeated loads without operating under extreme environmental conditions. 304 stainless steel has good ductility and responds smoothly during male crimp contact deep drawing and cold forming, making it suitable for mass production. The molybdenum content of 316 stainless steel enhances resistance to corrosive media, extending the service life of components in certain chloride-containing environments.
