Storage And Installation Guidelines For Cold-pressed Needles In Humid And Hot Environments

Electrical connection systems face severe challenges in humid and hot climates, severely testing the performance of the female crimp contact terminal. High humidity environments easily lead to the formation of a water film on the contact surface, accelerating the metal oxidation process. Condensation caused by drastic temperature fluctuations poses a potential threat to the insulation performance of the male crimp contact terminal. Engineers must pay special attention to product selection and protection strategies under these special operating conditions.

Humidity control of the storage environment

Unused cold-press needles should be stored in their original packaging. The desiccant inside the packaging effectively absorbs moisture. Warehouse environments must be equipped with temperature and humidity monitoring equipment. For areas where relative humidity consistently exceeds 60%, sealed moisture-proof cabinets are recommended. Inventory management should follow the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle to avoid damage to the terminal plating due to prolonged storage.

Process adjustments during installation

Hot and humid environments place higher demands on installation operations.

  • Material selection: Choose a coating material with stronger corrosion resistance. For example, gold-plated or nickel-plated cold-pressed needles perform better than ordinary tin-plated products in humid and hot environments. Insulating materials must have anti-mildew properties to prevent fungal growth from damaging the insulation performance.

  • Crimping Operation: The stripped wire length must be precisely controlled. Excessive exposed conductor length may intrude into adjacent wires. Crimping tools must be calibrated regularly. Insufficient pressure will increase contact resistance, while excessive crimping force may damage the terminal substrate. After crimping, visually inspect to ensure the insulation is completely pressed into the insulating casing.

After wiring, it is recommended to apply a dedicated protective silicone grease. The grease fills tiny gaps and prevents moisture intrusion. For outdoor applications, use waterproof connectors or potting compound to create multiple protective barriers for the cold-pressed pins.
