There are various types of contact crimper available, each with unique advantages and disadvantages. For small crimping needs requiring high precision, manually operated crimping tools may suffice. However, when more power is needed, hydraulic and electric models are also available.

Handheld - Manually operated d sub contact crimper are typically portable and used for smaller objects. Visually, they resemble traditional pliers with jaws, one side having ridges and the other a groove. The crimping action clamps the wire and connector into the groove, pressing them tightly together.
Electric - Battery-powered contact crimping  require less force to apply the necessary crimping pressure, as they provide extra battery power for portable models. Different models of electric crimpers are available to suit various needs, some featuring ratchets and ergonomic fittings.
Benchtop - These models are larger, higher-capacity variants designed to be mounted on a workbench for more challenging crimping tasks. Some are powered by electric motors, others manually.
Hydraulic - Hydraulic crimpers require very little force to operate, with their compression power provided by hydraulic fluid. They offer maximum power for demanding repair, maintenance, and industrial applications.
Pneumatic - Compressed air-based tools can provide serious power for crimping applications, powering heavy-duty applications. Similar to hydraulic tools, pneumatic models use air pressure to achieve the same purpose and are available in both manual and benchtop models.
